Mukbang YouTuber Kate Yup Followers Believe She is in Danger
30 September 2019
Popular Mukbang YouTuber, Kate Yup, has recently become a subject of concern after numerous fans have pointed out strange occurences across her many videos.
Mukbang videos consist of a YouTuber sitting down in front of their camera with a large quanitity of food, and then eating that food on camera. It is a trend that has become quite popular on the video sharing platform, with creators such as Kate Yup garnering as many as 400K subscribers.
Not much is known about Kate Yup other than that she's a female and her first language is not English. People have speculated that she is either French or French Canadian, this is due to old posts from her YouTube in which she speaks in French. She wears a mask in all of her videos, and blocks out the upper part of her face, showing only her mouth and bottom of her nose while she scoffs down the food she has to eat for her video.
People began to grow concerned for Kate Yup right off the bat, as normally, mukbang channels are not about eating quickly, but rather just eating at a leisurely pace. In comparisson, Kate Yup is often seen trying to scoff down her food as fast as she possibly can, and in some clips, a voice can be heard telling her to eat faster.
The voice telling her to eat faster is one of the reasons people have grown to be concerned for the wellbeing of Kate Yup. Paired with some unusual bruising on her arm and face, people have become convinced that Kate Yup is being held against her will and is being forced to make these mukbang videos for YouTube.
However, almost all of the strange occurances seem to have an explaination behind them. The voice telling Kate to hurry up, for example, can be explained as Kate being the one who is saying the words. If you watch her videos closely, you can see her mouth moving in sync with the words being said. It just sounds and looks strange because she's whispering and her mouth is stuffed with food. Another example would be the bruising on her arm and mouth. Yup explained these away in a post to her YouTube account, stating that she had herpes, and that the bruise on her arm was from the sun.
In the end, it seems as though all we have here is yet another tin foil conspiracy theory. Of course, there is a chance that Kate Yup could be in danger, but when you look at the evidence, there just doesn't seem to be anything concrete that proves anything abnoral is going on. Unless of course you count making mukbang videos to be abnormal, because I for one, certainly do.
